Dr Thais Guerrero is an environmental engineer from Brazil, raised in a community affected by industrial air pollution, which shaped her commitment to protecting public and environmental health. She works across the water and resource sector, focusing on wastewater management, resource recovery, and air quality.

Thais completed her PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UNSW Sydney, where she investigated odour emissions and biosolids management for beneficial reuse. Her research combined advanced analytical and sensory techniques to characterise volatile compounds across different sludge stabilisation processes. She has expertise in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and, through collaborations with Sydney Water, Hunter Water, and Melbourne Water, has gained hands-on experience in large-scale operations and applied research.

As a Research Associate at the Water Research Centre, UNSW Sydney, Thais is expanding her research from laboratory-based emissions monitoring to broader water, environmental, and climate challenges. She contributes to research on algal blooms, water quality and management, including the use of remote sensing and satellite imagery. Her work aims to advance sustainable resource management and circular economy solutions that protect human and environmental health.
