Swami brings together microbiology and environmental engineering to explore a practical question: how can we turn waste into useful resources while protecting the environment?

Swami's research career spans India, the United States and Australia. He holds PhDs in Microbiology from Bharathidasan University and Environmental Engineering from the University of Technology Sydney. His previous experience includes work as a Project Scientist at India’s National Institute of Ocean Technology, postdoctoral research at Lincoln University in Missouri, and research roles at UTS and Western Sydney University.

His work covers marine cyanobacteria, microalgae, microbial enzymes, pollution monitoring, bioenergy, wastewater treatment and nutrient recovery. Swami has also contributed to projects on food and garden waste management and the productive use of naturally grown aquatic plants. His current interests include hydroponic cultivation, biological crop stimulants and the environmental behaviour and safety of rare earth elements.

Alongside research, Swami contributes to teaching, student mentoring and industry collaboration. His goal is to develop practical solutions that connect cleaner water, sustainable food production and responsible resource recovery.
