Biography

Senior Lecturer at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr Haghani is a Senior Lecturer and an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering of UNSW Sydney. He is a PhD alumnus of The University of Melbourne and has previously held Fellowship positions at the Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies (ITLS) of the University of Sydney Business School as well as the Centre for Spatial Data and Land Administration (CSDILA) of the University of Melbourne. Milad's research and teaching is at the intersect of transport and safety research with a particular focus on human factors. He has undertaken an extensive amount of experimental and theoretical research in the areas of crowd safety, mass emergencies, public safety, public security perception, evacuation planning, pedestrian modelling and simulation, road safety and transport psychology. He is also an expert in the domain of econometric modelling and choice analysis as well as science of science and meta-research.

Prospective PhD applicants will be designated to one of the following areas:

road safety & traffic psychology
human factors in transport automation
transport equity, transport satisfaction & active transport
disaster preparedness (bushfire & terrorism)
safety & security factors in urban planning

Skills/backgrounds in any of the following areas will earn bonus points for prospective PhD applicants:

skills in numerical simulation programming
skills in VR/AR applications
skills in driving simulator programming
skills in econometric, choice modelling and/or machine learning
skills in mathematical optimisation methods
background in social and/or experimental psychology

*Domestic PhD applicants (citizens or permanent residents) with average grades of minimum 80% for their latest degree (i.e., First Class Honours, or equivalent) who wish to pursue their PhD with me may be eligible for (tax-exempt) scholarship top-up of up to $10K per annum for the duration of their candidature.
