Hasliza Omar (Alisa) is a PhD candidate in Energy Security at UNSW's School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. During her PhD journey, she received the Australian Composites Manufacturing CRC (ACM CRC)'s RISE Fellowship Award for her contributions in the STEM field. She co-authored a position paper for Women In Nuclear for COP27, entitled 'Harnessing the Power of Nuclear - Clean Energy, Water, Transportation, and Jobs.' She currently holds professional positions as a committee member for the Australian Nuclear Association (ANA) and a Higher Degree Research member on the Engineering Faculty Board.
As a Sir William Tyree Engineering Scholarship holder, her PhD thesis project, titled 'Beyond Decarbonisation: Measuring Energy Security,' is under the supervision of Dr. Edward Obbard, Dr. Nicholas Gilmore, Professor Iain MacGill, and Professor Ilpo Koskinen. Her broader research interests include investigating the impact of the energy transition and clean energy systems on future energy security, the geopolitics of energy trade, input-output analysis, and embodied energy consumption.
Prior to starting her PhD journey, Hasliza amassed a solid and varied 8 years of experience in the Energy (Oil & Gas, Nuclear) sector, covering areas such as Energy Policy, Economics, Analytical Research, Project Management, and Client Engagement. Her previous professional roles included offshore pipeline installation engineer, research project leader, lead academic tutor, and research assistant.
