My Expertise

Dr Mingzi Zhang's research focuses on image-based computational cardiovascular medicine, integrating medical imaging, computational modelling and artificial intelligence to develop clinically applicable tools for cardiovascular diagnosis, risk stratification and treatment planning. His expertise spans patient-specific cardiovascular and cerebrovascular simulations, anatomy–haemodynamics analysis, non-invasive functional assessment from routine medical imaging, and simulation-guided optimisation of endovascular interventions.

Dr Mingzi Zhang has over a decade of experience in biomedical engineering research, with specialised expertise in image-based cardiovascular simulations and their applications to clinical diagnostics and treatment planning. He holds joint affiliations with the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University, where he leads collaborative research on predicting the risk of heart attack and aneurysm rupture, as well as advancing simulation-based personalisation of endovascular therapies. His work integrates state-of-the-art computational modelling and artificial intelligence techniques. As an ECR, Dr Zhang has published over 40 peer-reviewed research articles, and his contributions have gained wide recognition in the field. He actively serves the research community as a reviewer for multiple leading academic journals and was the youngest session organiser at the International Conference on Fluid Dynamics (ICFD).
