Dr Rodrigo Curvello is a Lecturer in the School of Biomedical Engineering at UNSW Sydney. He completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the Bioresource Processing Institute of Australia (BioPRIA), Monash University, where he was awarded the Mollie Holman Medal for the best doctoral thesis in the Faculty of Engineering.

He completed postdoctoral research in tumour tissue engineering at Monash, including specialised training in pancreatic cancer at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (USA), and in biomaterials at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (Germany). Rodrigo holds a double degree in Biomedical Engineering and Science & Technology from the Federal University of ABC (Brazil), alongside an Honours-equivalent research program at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute.

At the intersection of tissue engineering and cancer biology, his research investigates how the tumour microenvironment shapes responses to targeted therapies. By combining biomaterial-based platforms, multicellular systems, organoids, and multiomics, Rodrigo engineers advanced, physiologically-relevant 3D models of human tumours "on a dish".
