My research focuses on treatment of infections and improving antibiotic use in children. Thus includes research involving special groups such as immunocompromised children and newborns.

Within this field, I lead research in quality improvement program implementation, patient-centered care, and guideline and policy development.

I am a Paediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist and Microbiologist, working at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, and a Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, Discipline of Paediatrics, at UNSW.

I am willing to supervise ILP and Honours Students completing the UNSW MD program (formally MBBS), as well as Higher Degree Students (Masters and PhD).

My Engagement

Brendan McMullan is an Evolve clinical champion with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) driving high-quality clinical care, particularly promoting improved antimicrobial use for children and the wider community, engaging prescribers and the public.  

He is Chair of ANZPID, the Paediatric Interest Group of the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID)

Brendan is the Secretary of the World Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID)

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brendan co-chaired the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce Paediatric and Adolescent Care Panel.
