Dr Daniel Chan is a Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon at St George Hospital, St George Private Hospital and East Sydney Private Hospital. He is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the UNSW St George & Sutherland Clinical School. He completed AANZGOSA post-fellowship training in Upper GI Surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (2023) and Royal North Shore Hospital (2024).

As an early career researcher, Dr Chan has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 20) in upper GI surgery, therapeutic endoscopy, bariatric surgery, hernia surgery and surgical oncology. He is a Director of the Upper Gastrointestinal & Metabolic Research Foundation (UGIMRF) and supervises undergraduate Independent Learning Project and BSc (Medicine) Honours students.

Dr Chan is a Major in the Australian Army Reserve, Deputy Chair of the RACS Military Surgery Section, and an Editor of the Journal of Military and Veterans’ Health.
