Ebony is an early career researcher and has a passion for improving the health and wellbeing of older adults. She has extensive experience in gerontology research and geriatric assessment in clinical practice.
Her research work has focused largely on a program of research aiming to reduce avoidable hospitalisations and unnecessary treatments to improve the end-of-life care experience for frail older adults, caregivers and clinicians. Ebony’s research has had an impact at both a national and international level. In 2021, Ebony and Associate Professor Magnolia Cardona jointly wrote, collected and collated a book which is a collection of real life stories from families, patients and clinicians encouraging and normalising end-of-life discussions (https://www.book2look.com/book/QWXA1Ke5xy). Ebony leads a program of research around frailty and ageing in older adult populations and has a strong interest around culturally appropriate approaches to the assessment of frailty and frailty management strategies to support health and wellbeing in later life. She uses mixed methods to aid in the translation of research into practice.
Ebony is a Scientia lecturer in the School of Population Health. She is the Master of Public Health Stream Convenor of the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Specialisation and convenes the postgraduate course PHCM9630. Ebony delivers regular guest lectures in the School of Population Health and undergraduate Medical Program. Ebony completed her PhD through the Faculty of Medicine & Health at UNSW in 2024. She has also completed a Masters of International Public Health (2013) and a Bachelor of Nursing (2010).
