Dr Louisa Owens is a Paediatric Respiratory Specialist and Consultant at Sydney Children’s Hospital. Louisa completed her medical degree and paediatric training in Ireland before moving to Perth, Western Australia in 2012 to complete a Fellowship in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. She took up a position as Staff Specialist at Sydney Children’s Hospital in 2016. She also serves on an expert advisory committee for Asthma Australia’s GASP program and is a Lecturer for the Diploma in Child Health/International Postgraduate Paediatric Certificate.

My Research Activities

Louisa’s key area of research is on the early life factors which predict respiratory health and particularly asthma, throughout childhood and into early adulthood. Her PhD thesis on this topic will be completed in 2017 and she has already published several papers from her thesis.

She is also involved in a number of research trials in cystic fibrosis, looking at novel treatments as well as outcome measures for young children with CF.

Louisa is also involved in paediatric bronchiectasis research in Australia and runs a specialised bronchiectasis clinic at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
