Bioengineering biomimetic biomaterials
Diabetes is a world-wide health issue that affects approximately 1.7 million Australians. Diabetes causes changes throughout the body including impairing the ability to heal wounds that are typically located on the feet and lower legs.
This project aims to develop biomaterials that contain bioengineered molecules that promote blood vessel formation for wound healing by potentiating the activity of growth factors. The hope is that one day these biomaterials will be used to treat diabetic wounds to support the formation of blood vessels and skin.
