My Expertise

My research aims to address barriers to accessing eye care and improve patient outcomes.

I apply qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine barriers from patient, practitioner, service, and health system perspectives.

My recent publication, The true cost of hidden waiting times for cataract surgery in Australia, showed that reducing waiting times for cataract surgery could prevent falls and also result in health system cost savings. This work was cited in advocacy submissions by Vision 2020 Australia to the Federal Government and featured in the media (Sydney Morning Herald and The Age).

I currently serve on the Vision 2020 Australia Prevention and Early Intervention Committee.

I am interested in supporting and promoting the interests of early career academics through my roles as Committee Member of the Early Career Academic Network, Medicine & Health Subcommittee and the Co-chair of the Early Career Research Group at the School of Optometry and Vision Science.

I completed my PhD at the Centre for Eye Health, on collaborative care and patient-monitoring of intraocular pressure in glaucoma. I was Senior Staff Optometrist at the Centre Eye Health (2016-2021) and previously held positions at the Australian College of Optometry, in private and corporate practices in NSW and Victoria. I also volunteered at University of Medicine Pham Ngoc Thach in Ho Chi Minh City (2015), Vietnam to help establish the optometry education program as part the Australian Volunteers Program, in conjunction with the Brien Holden Foundation.
