My Expertise

Dr Kayleen Manwaring is an Associate Professor in the School of Private & Commercial Law in UNSW Law & Justice. Her research interests lie in sociotechnical change and the legal implications for business and consumers, particularly in the area of information technology. Most recently, she has developed extensive expertise in the consumer protection implications of sociotechnical change arising out of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things and associated technologies. These include cyber security, data collection and handling, surveillance and privacy, digital consumer manipulation, software licensing, conduct affecting competition, contracting practices and service disavowal. She is also undertaking research relating to regulation of AI and quantum computing.

She also teaches and researches in the areas of contract law, consumer protection, electronic commerce, online content regulation, intellectual property and corporations law. She has taught as a visitor at Kings College London and the University of Zurich. In 2022-2023, she undertook a Senior Research Fellowship in the UNSW Allens Hub for Technology, Law & Innovation. In 2024, she was appointed Visiting Scholar, Yung Pow Hung School of Law, Singapore Management University.

Biography

Dr Kayleen Manwaring is Associate Professor in the School of Private and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law & Justice.
