Biography

Dr Yang Song is a Scientia Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Faculty of Engineering, UNSW Sydney. She graduated with a BEng in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and obtained a PhD degree in Computer Science from the University of Sydney in 2013.

Dr Yang Song is a Scientia Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Faculty of Engineering, UNSW Sydney. She graduated with a BEng in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and obtained a PhD degree in Computer Science from the University of Sydney in 2013.

She was an ARC DECRA Fellow at the University of Sydney before joining UNSW as a Lecturer in 2018. She was awarded the prestigious ARC Future Fellowship in 2019 and has been a Scientia Fellow at UNSW since 2020. She currently leads the Neuro-Reasoning Research Lab and serves as Co-Director of iCinema Research Centre. She is also currently the Associate Head of School (Research) in CSE.

Her research area is in Computer VisionDeep Learning, and Human-Centred AI. She has over 280 peer-reviewed publications including papers in TMI, MedIA, TIP, TMM, NeuroImage, Bioinformatics, CVPR, ICCV, AAAI, IJCAI, ICLR, NeurIPS, ICRA, IROS and MICCAI. Her current research can be generally grouped into five themes:

  • Computational Histopathology
  • Computational Neuroscience
  • Vision, Language and Robotics
  • Deep Learning Paradigms
  • Trustworthy AI
