I conduct research in the areas of motivation, wellbeing, academic and social-emotional development using quantitative research methods. I examine these factors among students and teachers with the aim of identifying how to best support academic, social, and emotional thriving among students and occupational thriving among teachers. I am now also conducting research on generative AI use among teachers and students.
I have been awarded over $4m in national/international grants, and government and non-government research tenders. My publications include 140 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, 1 co-edited book, and 6 commissioned government reports. I have delivered 45 invited/keynote presentation and written over 50 articles for practitioner outlets.
I am ranked 1st in citations of Australian education researchers who began publishing after 2010 (Stanford’s 2024 World Top 2% Cited). In 2022-2023, I was ranked Top 25 of most productive educational psychology researchers in the world and Top 10 among females (Fong et al., 2022, Griffin et al., 2023 in Ed. Psych. Rev.). I am now ranked Top 10 in the world of most productive educational psychology researchers (Kubik et al., 2024 preprint on OSF).
My work has been cited in 130 different national and international policy documents, including from the OECD, UNESCO, European Commission, and governments around the world. I have 5 journal articles in the World Top 1% Most Cited and an additional 55 in the World Top 10% Most Cited.
I am an Associate Editor for the flagship empirical journal in my field, Journal of Educational Psychology, Consulting Editor of Educational Psychology, and an Editorial Board Member for top journals, including British Journal of Educational Psychology, Educational Psychology Review, Contemporary Educational Psychology, Learning and Individual Differences, Learning and Instruction, and Teaching and Teacher Education.
My work has been recognised with several honours including an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellowship (2020), the Richard E. Snow Award for Early Career Research Contributions from the American Psychological Association Division 15 (2021), and the Outstanding Early Career Scholar Award from the American Educational Research Association Division C (2020). Prior to that, I was awarded the Young Scientist Award from the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development (2018).
I completed my doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia in Canada, and previously worked as a primary school teacher in Melbourne.
