Angelica is an alumnus of UNSW and was awarded her PhD thesis on the Multimodal evaluation of macular structure and function in age-related macular degeneration at the Centre for Eye Health (2018). Angelica is an alumnus of UNSW and was awarded her PhD thesis on the Multimodal evaluation of macular structure and function in age-related macular degeneration at the Centre for Eye Health (2018). She was Lead Clinician (Macula) and Integrated Care Co-ordinator at the Centre for Eye Health from 2019 to 2021 and most recently joined the Brien Holden Vision Institute as Principal Research Optometrist (2021-2022).  

In the four years since her PhD, she has published 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has secured more than $500K in research funding.  She presents regularly at national and international conferences, and has also been engaged in teaching in the School of Optometry and Vision Science, contributing to a range of courses including Advanced Ocular Disease 1, Disease Processes of the Eye 2 and Therapeutics and the Posterior Eye, clinical placements for Clinical Ocular Therapy 5A/5B, final year research projects and HDR supervision.

My Research Activities

My research activities are focused on age-related macular degeneration and other retinal diseases in the areas of:

  • Advanced retinal image analysis
  • Patient outcomes and health care delivery
  • Clinical decision support systems

My current research projects and opportunities are entitled:

  • Clinical decision support for improving outcomes in macular disease via multimodal support (COMMS)
  • Attitudes and barriers to care in AMD (The ABCs of AMD) 
  • Social determinants of preventable vision loss
