Dr. Sunjaya's research focuses on cardiorespiratory diseases, complex chronic diseases, primary care, and digital health especially the development, validation and translation of decision support systems, AI, and virtual care. He has a special interest in supporting universal health coverage, improving care, especially in low-resource settings and primary care through the use of innovative evidence-based solutions.

Dr Anthony Paulo Sunjaya is a medical doctor and Senior Lecturer in Health Leadership and Management at the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW Sydney, Australia. He also consults at the Tyree Institute for Health Engineering based out of UNSW's Faculty of Engineering on accelerating the translation of medical technologies into clinical practice.
He is a Affiliate Faculty of the Center for Primary Care, Harvard Medical School, an Honorary Fellow in Respiratory Health at The George Institute for Global Health, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Public Health, Imperial College London. He was formerly a researcher at the The George Institute for Global Health and visiting researcher at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals.
His research focuses on health systems, primary care, personalised medicine and digital health especially the development and implementation of decision support systems, and patient centered care. Clinically, his work focuses on cardiorespiratory diseases, diabetes, and multimorbidity.
He is currently Commissioner in the Lancet Global Health Commission on People Centered Care for Universal Health Coverage; Associate Editor (AI and Digital Health) at the Annals of Family Medicine, and Vice-Chair of the Digital Transformation Leadership working group in the International Society for Telemedicine and e-Health (ISfTeH), one of two digital health associations with direct affiliation to WHO; and Member, Research Committee, Asia-Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR). He has also been invited to Co-Chair the Membership Committee in the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM), Executive in the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) NSW ECR and HDR Students Chapter, is Past President of Postgraduate Council UNSW, Past Convenor of the Primary Care SIG, Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and Past President of the UNSW ASEAN Society.
Beyond research, he is a keen advocate for research translation especially to lower-middle income countries including through co-founding BantingMed, a culturally appropriate digital diabetes prevention program and being part of the 2022 Group of 20 (G20) Think 20 Taskforce on Global Health and Biosecurity as well as represent Indonesia in the 2023 Group of 7 (G7) Youth Summit on Global Health and Happiness.

My Research Activities
My research focuses on 3 key streams:
- Cardiorespiratory Health and Multimorbidity
Focusing on improving outcomes especially for chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma and their comorbidities such as heart failure and ischemic heart diseases through new models of care and implementation of evidence based treatments.
A wide spectrum of studies from development to implementation, trials and validation with partners in Australia and globally.
- People Centred Health Systems
This stream focuses on projects that aim to improve the people centredness and sustainability of health systems with a focus on primary care.
