Dr. Carina B. Tanaka is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She received her Bachelor's degree in Dentistry in 2010 and the Ph.D. degree in Dental biomaterials in 2015, both from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2013 she was a visiting scholar at the Department of Biomaterials & Biomimetics in the College of Dentistry at New York University, funded by the Brazilian federal government with a Science without Borders scholarship. Following this period she was granted an extension at NYU with a position of Assistant Research Scientist. From 2017 until now she has been working on fracture mechanics and microstructure caractherization of biomaterials mentored by Prof. Kruzic. Her research activities concentrate on understanding the mechanics of fracture, microstructural and microbiological analysis of biomaterials. Since 2017 she works in close co-operation with the University of Sydney Dental School, participating in a number of joint research efforts in topics related to dentistry and development of biomaterials.
