Dr Gianfranco Giuntoli is a Research Associate at the Social Policy Research Centre. Dr Gianfranco Giuntoli is a Research Associate at the Social Policy Research Centre. His research interests lie in the social study of health and illness, with a particular focus on the connections between well-being, poverty and employment transitions, and how social and policy factors affect people’s intra-personal and inter-personal experiences of well-being and their resilience.

Gianfranco gained his PhD in Psychology from The Australian National University. His thesis consisted of an application of Amartya Sen’s concept of ‘capabilities’ to the study of the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS.

In 2007, Gianfranco moved to the UK from Australia where he worked firstly at a research consultancy company in Oxford, UK, before taking up a position as Research Officer at the Centre for Health Promotion Research at Leeds Metropolitan University. At the Centre for Health Promotion Research he was promoted to Research Fellow in 2009 and worked there until December 2013. During this time, Gianfranco gained experience managing and undertaking both primary research, secondary data analyses, and evaluation studies on patients’ and lay people’s experiences of their own health and specific health promotion interventions.

Recent projects on which Gianfranco has worked include:
