Biography
Dr Gianfranco Giuntoli is a Senior Research Fellow at the Social Policy Research Centre. His research interests lie in the social study of health and illness, with a particular focus on the connections between well-being, poverty and employment transitions, and how social and policy factors affect people’s intra-personal and inter-personal experiences of well-being and their resilience.

Dr Gianfranco Giuntoli is a Senior Research Fellow at the Social Policy Research Centre. His research interests lie in the social study of health and illness, with a particular focus on the connections between well-being, poverty and employment transitions, and how social and policy factors affect people’s intra-personal and inter-personal experiences of well-being and their resilience.
Gianfranco has extensive experience of undertaking research using a variety of research methods, specialising in mixed methods and qualitative research. His work has explored the needs, service acceptability and service accessibility of socially disadvantaged groups, including people with disabilities, older people, unemployed people, migrants, and people living with HIV/AIDS. Gianfranco has gained national and international experience of reporting research findings to different audiences and in different formats, from academic journal articles, to reports, to interviews with the media. His work in the field of mental health and wellbeing has been published in the series of expert papers by The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK.

I am interested in supevising research projects with a focus on the social inclusion of people with disability, of people with lived experience of mental illness, Australians experiencing adversity, and employment transitions.
Currently supervising
I am currently joint primary supervisor of a PhD thesis about the efficacy of collaborations between government and non-government agencies in implementing the employment quota policy for women with disability in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
My Teaching
At UNSW Sydney, Gianfranco has taught quliative research methods.
He has also taught ‘Introduction to Sociology’ and ‘Sociology of Health and Illness’ for undergraduate and postgraduate modules at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.
He has supervised Masters students to completion and has been on the supervisory panel of a PhD student.
