Dr. Hora Hedayati is an Education-Focused Senior Lecturer (Academic Development) in the UNSW Business School Education Portfolio, which she joined in 2022. She is passionate about fostering student learning outcomes, implementing evidence-informed pedagogical innovations, and driving educational reform through evidence-based practices.
A leader in Higher Education, Hora's recent roles have included Academic Lead for Assessment in the Master of Commerce program and Lecturer-in-Charge for COMM5044 - Future of Work. Having co-led the design and development of program-level experiential learning assessment program for the Master of Commerce, Hora is currently conducting a study on the evaluation of programmatic assessment in the program. She conducted program-level reviews of assessments and designed and implemented a new assessment structure in the work-integrated learning course (COMM5044), ensuring alignment with principles of experiential learning.
As an early adopter education focussed academic and faculty representative, Hora is continuously engaged in university-wide innovation initiatives such as assessment and feedback reform, learning analytics, and AI-enhanced learning and teaching. Hora has built her adaptation of new pedagogy and technology on a broad base of practical experience in academic programs, curriculum, coursework, assessment design and evaluation. She has led course design projects and professional development events to build capacity among peers in the design of programs across all modes of delivery (from face-to-face to blended, hybrid, and online), including asynchronous, self-directed and peer-to-peer learning.
Her primary research interests and academic practice focus on assessment validation and the assessment literacy of academic staff. Hora holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in Language Education Assessment and Teacher Education in Technology-Enhanced Learning and Teaching. Prior to joining UNSW, she was a tenured Assistant Professor and taught courses on Linguistics, Language Assessment, Research Methodologies in Language Education, and Digital Technologies for Language Teachers and published on these areas. Hora also has practical experience in teaching and designing general and academic English language teaching and assessment programs overseas and in Australia (UNSW College; UWS College).
