I am a historian of modern China, and currently Judith Neilson Post-Doctoral Fellow in Contemporary Art at UNSW in Sydney. My interdisciplinary research applies historical and art historical methodologies to explore the cultural and social history of twentieth and twenty-first century China. My current book project reframes the history of the visual arts in the People’s Republic of China by exploring how visual arts practice contributed to creating, and then dismantling, the party-state’s official taxonomy of socialist class identities.

I am co-author of the book Floating Time: Chinese Prints, 1954–2002 (Sydney: Power Publications, 2016). I co-curated the exhibitions Provocations: Avant-Garde Art in China in the 1980s (Fisher Library, The University of Sydney, 2017) and Floating Time: Chinese Prints, 1954–2002 (University Art Gallery, The University of Sydney, 2016). My writing on Chinese contemporary art has been published in Art Monthly Australasia.
