Dr. Lau is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer, UNSW;  a Consultant Endocrinologist with Liverpool Hospital and an Inaugural Senior Fellow with LIVEDIAB, Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research.

In South West Sydney his clinical expertise in complex obesity, general endocrinology, diabetes management and complex diabetic foot diseases has led to research projects exploring in-patient hyperglycaemia, cardio-metabolic risk assessment in advanced diabetes, drug therapies for diabetes and their impact on cardiovascular function and risk, and novel treatments of complex diabetic foot disease. His prior doctoral research explored the role of appetite and satiety hormones and macronutrients in regulating food intake, body weight & overweight and obesity in the area of obesity related weight loss and weight maintenance.

2019: Undergraduate Medical Programme WSU - Research Project

Current projects suitable for ILP candidates 2019-2020 include cardiovascular risk assessment in complex diabetes; health economic impact of outpatient antibiotics for diabetic foot infection, use of novel technology to reduce ulceration rates in diabetic foot disease and models of care to improve glycaemic control of inpatients with diabetes.

Supervision includes supervisor support for the student to write papers, to be presented at leading national diabetes conferences.
