My Research Activities

Prof Jha has led a series of studies that seek to understand the global burden of kidney disease, its socio-economic determinants, health-economic implications and ethical issues. He has led a series of randomized controlled trials, observational studies and global consortia to address these issues. He is leading a program of work –  SMARTHealth India – which utilises advanced mobile health technologies that provide the healthcare worker with personalised clinical decision support to guide the risk assessment, referral and follow-up of individual members of the community. This technology has the potential to revolutionise the delivery of essential healthcare to those who previously had little or no access. Prof Jha has done community based study to evaluate the incidence of end stage kidney disease in India and managed the Indian Chronic Kidney Disease registry. Currently, he is leading the Indian Chronic Kidney Disease study, which aims to define the factors that determine progression of kidney disease and development of cardiovascular disease in patients with CKD. Prof Jha was invited by Lancet to write a paper on the Global dimensions of chronic kidney disease, cost of treatment and the ethical aspects around treatment of patients with kidney disease from a standpoint of equity and accessibility. In addition to being a Professor of Nephrology and James Martin Professorial Fellow at University of Oxford, he is also the Executive Director of the George Institute for Global Health in India which has an extensive track record of conducting community based interventional studies
