Xiaoran (Daisy) Chu is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Chemical Engineering. Her research focuses on water treatment, specifically the treatment and removal of natural organic matter and microalgae. She is also an active Uni-outreach leader in the Young Water Professional NSW subcommittee of the Australian Water Association, where she engages with and fosters university students' connections to the Australian water industry.

My Research Activities

Before 2018: Heavy metal adsorption by activated carbon.

2018-2019: Research on oxidation sequences and combinations for the removal of natural organic matter, character changes, and control of manganese and trihalomethanes. One paper published.

2019-2020: Research on developing and validating a novel capillary device for floc strength measurement.

2020-2023: Research on oxidation mechanisms for microalgae beyond cyanobacteria, including kinetic modelling and the effects of oxidation on algal organic matter.

2024-now: Engineering strategies to mitigate algal growth and accumulation within water treatment plants across Australia.


My Engagement

Uni-outreach leader in the Young Water Professional NSW subcommittee of the Australian Water Association, where she engages with and fosters university students' connections to the Australian water industry.
