Dr Jeremy Chiang is a postdoctoral research associate at the School of Optometry, College of Health and Life Sciences in Aston University working closely with Professor James Wolffsohn. His expertise lies in ocular surface imaging, particularly of the corneal nerves, in the diagnosis and management of ocular surface conditions including dry eye disease. His research vision aims to see how different parts of our eyes could reflect ocular and systemic health. His PhD focussed on corneal nerve changes in systemic neurotoxic chemotherapy used for cancer treatment at UNSW and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He is also a University Medallist alumnus from the School of Optometry and Vision Science at UNSW who continues to practice as a clinical optometrist in the community.

My Research Activities

My research focuses on ocular surface imaging, particularly corneal nerves in dry eye disease. This stems from my experience with corneal nerve imaging in systemic neurological conditions including peripheral neuropathies caused by neurotoxic cancer treatments and diabetes. My PhD research was in the topic of in-vivo corneal confocal microscopy and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy supervised by Dr Maria Markoulli, Professor Arun V Krishnan and Professor David Goldstein. The program is undertaken at the School of Optometry and Vision Science in collaboration with the IN FOCUS Study cancer research group based at the Prince of Wales Hospital (https://www.infocusstudy.org.au/).
