Ms Sophie Rose Pitt

Biography

Ms Sophie Pitt is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman. She is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, where she develops and teaches Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health content in the undergraduate Medicine Program.

Ms Sophie Pitt is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman. She is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine, where she develops and teaches Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health content in the undergraduate Medicine Program.

Sophie graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) with University Medal from CSU in 2020, where she was also awarded the Charles Sturt Medal. She has over 15 years of experience in cultural competence education in both the Department of Human Services and NSW Health. Sophie completed an Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship as part of the Djirruwang Program, and then worked for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District as an Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician and an Aboriginal Mental Healthcare Navigator.

Sophie is a reference group member of the Leadership in Indigenous Health Education (LIME) Network, and is currently the co-lead for the Indigenous Health Cluster Group for the Medicine Curriculum Redesign.

Sophie has a widely varied lived and learnt experience as a result of her involvement with communities dedicated to promoting health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as well as preserving their culture. Over the course of her career, she has encountered a wide spectrum of client groups, service models, work settings, and stakeholders. These experiences have equipped her with a high degree of adaptability and skill in communication, strengths-based approaches, and cultural capabilities.
