Biography
Bill Randolph joined the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales in August 2004 as Professor and Director of the City Futures Research Centre. He stepped down as Director at the end of 2020. He served as Associate Dean Research between 2009 - 2013. Bill Randolph joined the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales in August 2004 as Professor and Director of the City Futures Research Centre. He stepped down as Director at the end of 2020. He served as Associate Dean Research between 2009 - 2013. At City Futures he undertakes research specializing in housing policy, housing markets and affordability, urban renewal and metropolitan planning policy issues. Bill has over 45 years' experience as a researcher on housing and urban policy issues in the academic, government, non-government and private sectors. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and a Member of the Australasian Housing Institute.

Research Activities
Current strategic metropolitan planning is compromised by limited access to information from the diverse sources of geospatial data required for reliable analysis and effective decision making. This project will employ an integrated 3D geospatial information model to research a range of likely social, economic and environmental outcomes of urban renewal proposals in two major case study locations relevant to the Sydney Metropolitan Strategy. Australia?s mainland state capital cities have recently published metropolitan plans to guide their future direction and growth. Housing requirements remain couched in supply-side terms: as target numbers and expectations that the market will provide.
