My Expertise

Dr. Aplin's field of research is neural engineering, with a focus on implantable devices that can communicate with the nervous system. He is an expert on the electrical stimulation of nerves, medical bionics, and neural prosthetics. He also has experience and expertise in diseases of the sensory nervous system (in particular, visual degeneration, vestibular dysfunction, chronic pain).

Felix Aplin is a postdoctoral fellow at the Translational Neuroscience Facility, Faculty of Medicine & Health at UNSW Sydney. Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2022 Invited Speaker presented 17-18th of September at the Sydney Carriageworks to a live (200+) audience, as part of the “Unthinkable” program (talk titled “Building Better Brains”.

UNSOMNIA 2021 Recipient and Speaker awarded on 13 April 2021. UNSOMNIA is a fully funded media grant that combines continued professional development with the opportunity to present research in a public forum.

Mavis and Ian Rowe Prize for Retinal Diseases research (AU$2,300) awarded on 24 March 2013 for research on retinal prosthesis function in degenerate retina.

R.B. McComas Research Scholarship (AU$25,000 per annum) awarded between 28 February 2011 and 28 February 2015 during Ph.D. candidature.
