Dr Winifred Asare-Doku leads a research program at the National Drug & Alcohol Research Centre, University of New South Wales, focused on understanding substance use, harms, and treatment for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations. Her research also explores the intersections of mental health, substance use, and suicide prevention, with a focus on vulnerable groups, including young people and individuals in the criminal justice system.

Dr. Asare-Doku holds a PhD in Psychiatry from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and an MPhil in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ghana. She practised as a Clinical Psychologist and is credentialed with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Dr. Asare-Doku led the evaluation of the National Kava Importation Pilot Program, assessing the social, cultural, economic, and health impacts of changes in kava importation. She is also committed to improving access to evidence-based treatment through technology and translating research into practice.
