Andrey has a laboratory-based background in protein interaction, systems biology and more recently worked within VHCRP on HCV phylogenetics, epidemiology and resistance marker analysis. Andrey has been awarded a four-year UNSW-CSIRO Industry PhD (iPhD) scholarship in partnership with SpeeDx, an Australian company specialising in molecular diagnostics.  The industry focussed iPhD scheme is an applied research training program designed to develop scholars with the skills to work at the interface between research and industry. Andrey will be co-supervised by Tanya Applegate (Kirby Institute), Denis Bauer (CSIRO) and Elisa Mokany (SpeeDx) and will work closely with partners of the ARC Hub to combat antimicrobial resistance to develop machine learning tools to identify genetic markers that will inform the development of new diagnostic tools  for antimicrobial resistance of Neisseria Gonorrhoeae.
