Ian is a Senior Lecturer and Education Focussed academic in Finance at UNSW’s School of Banking and Finance. He holds a PhD in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Navarra, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Business at the University of New South Wales, and a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) also from the University of New South Wales.
As an Education Focussed Academic, Ian is an enthusiastic educator in finance with almost 15 years of experience teaching finance at a tertiary level. He currently teaches FINS2615 Intermediate Business Finance, one of the gateway undergraduate courses to careers in Finance and FINS5511 Corporate Finance, the equivalent postgraduate course. He is the academic in-charge of the UNSW Finance Career Showcase, an internal stock pitch competition between UNSW students and judged by finance investment professionals. While education focussed, Ian continues research interests in strategic alliances between companies and how these alliances create value and affect the risk of firms.
Prior to working at UNSW, Ian was an Assistant Professor at the University of Navarra’s School of Economics and Business where he taught undergraduate subjects in Finance and trained high performing students the skills of case competition. In 2016, he was awarded a Teaching Excellence Award. Prior to entering academia, Ian worked as an Engineer, as an equities research analyst, as a venture capital buy-side analyst, and as an administrator for a secondary school.
