Anthony is a NHMRC Neil Hamilton Fairley Early Career Fellow/Senior Research Officer at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and Senior Clinical Lecturer with St Vincent’s Clinical School where he is responsible for the Endocrine Cancer Research Program. This program uses molecular biology and OMIC approaches to better understand endocrine cancer biology and develop new treatments. He has received research training with the Cancer Genetics Laboratory of the Kolling Institute of Medical Research (University of Sydney) where he obtained a PhD (Medicine) in the molecular biology of adrenal cancer followed by post-doctoral research experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York) in the thyroid cancer laboratory of clinician-scientist Jim Fagin.

Anthony is a VMO Surgeon with the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgery Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) which specialises in the treatment of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal diseases. He is the scientific and education convenor for Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (ANZES), which is a society of specialist surgeons that aims to achieve the highest standards in the practice of endocrine surgery. Anthony completed general surgical training at St Vincent's Hospital (Sydney), followed by clinical fellowships in surgical oncology with the Royal Marsden Hospital (London) and in endocrine surgery with the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgical Unit.

For Surgical Education, Anthony holds a consultant appointment with the Surgical Education Research and Training (SERT) Institute at RNSH, where he is responsible for post-graduate coursework surgery programs offered by the University of Sydney. In this role he has developed the popular Surgical Skills (SURG5031) subject which aims to prepare Junior Doctors for Surgical Training and is developing a new subject in Surgical Leadership which will be launched in 2020. My Research Supervision

Areas of supervision

Project: Understanding biology and outcomes of thyroid cancer

Discipline: Cancer Biology, Endocrine Surgery

Project level: Projects can be tailored to all levels

Supervisor: Dr Anthony Glover

Project commencement: Variable

Summary: The incidence of thyroid cancer has increased rapidly in the past few decades and is now the 7th most common cancer in Australian women. Thyroid cancer has a low mutation rate but a wide range of natural history from small cancers which can be observed to those which rapidly develop metastatic disease. Our group seeks to improve the knowledge of thyroid cancer biology using sequencing and to understand the clinical outcomes of thyroid cancer. Projects offer the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Sydney Endocrine Surgery Unit based at Royal North Shore Hospital which is the largest treatment centre for thyroid cancer in Australia.
