Dr Jian Cheng Qi is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the St George and Sutherland Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine. He is undertaking his research under the supervision of Conjoint Professor Steven Krilis, Head of the Department of Infectious Disease, Immunology, and Sexual Health at UNSW, a Consultant in Infectious Disease and Immunology at St George Hospital and a world-renowned expert in the biology of beta-2 glycoprotein and antiphospholipid syndrome.
Research Interests:
His research aims are focussed on autoimmune disease and mast cell biology. His works are involved the assessment of Beta 2-glycoprotein I function in the antiphospholipid syndrome, lipid metabolism and cardiovascular disease utilising beta 2-GPI knockout mice. The 2nd area is involved with identifying the receptor on mast cells for IL-16 and the role of mast cells and basophils in inflammation, asthma and HIV-1 infection.
Broad Research Areas:
Infectious Diseases, Immunology, Haematology, Inflammation, Vascular biology and Autoimmunity
Qualifications: PhD (medicine)
Specific Research Keywords:
Infectious disease, oxidative stress, beta 2-glyycoprotein I, endothelium, inflammation, autoimmune disease, thrombosis, mouse models, lipopolysaccharide, endotoxin, mast cell, basophils and immunology.
