Dr Kylie Vuong is Senior Lecturer in Primary Care at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the UNSW. A clinician researcher, she aims to improve patient outcomes through the integration of research findings with clinical practice, policy and health systems. Dr Vuong obtained her BSc (Medicine) and MBBS degrees from UNSW Sydney, MIPH (Merit) degree from The University of Sydney, and PhD in Cancer Epidemiology from The University of Sydney. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and works clinically as a vocationally registered general practitioner.

Her research program has focused on translating the latest knowledge on cancer risk factors and risk communication strategies to inform the development of information systems to improve health outcomes. Together with colleagues from the University of Sydney, she developed, by use of data from a large Australian population-based case-control study, a melanoma risk prediction model based on self-assessed risk factors: hair colour, naevus density, first-degree family history, previous non-melanoma skin cancer history and lifetime sunbed use. To date, this is the only melanoma risk prediction model to be externally validated across four independent population-based studies and prospectively evaluated in a pragmatic randomised clinical trial in general practice.
