Biography

Nathanael is a medical anthropologist and research associate at the Kirby Institute. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork (physical and digital), Nathanael's PhD research explored the use of PrEP among MSM in Melbourne, Australia. His PhD examined how through shifting perceptions of sexual risk and safety, PrEP enabled users new possibilities for experiencing sexual pleasure and intimacy. Nathanael is a medical anthropologist and research associate at the Kirby Institute. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork (physical and digital), Nathanael's PhD research explored the use of PrEP among MSM in Melbourne, Australia. His PhD examined how through shifting perceptions of sexual risk and safety, PrEP enabled users new possibilities for experiencing sexual pleasure and intimacy. Nathanael has a particular interest in understanding sexual health beyond the prevention of STIs. Prior to his PhD, Nathanael's honours thesis examine racial stereotypes among self-identified Asian gay men and how these stereotypes affect interactions with the broader gay community.
