Sandra joined the Social Policy Research Centre in 2008. Prior to her appointment as a Research Associate she worked at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Vienna. Her research looked at European immigration policies and their intersection with the informal economy. Sandra's work involved interviews with vulnerable and marginalised groups (e.g. sex workers; undocumented migrant workers).
Sandra's expertise is in qualitative research, including projects involving mixed methods; longitudinal analysis; involvement of multiple stakeholder groups; and delivering research outputs to various audiences. Her research expands to various social policy fields: disability and mental health research; migration and immigration; research with young people and their families and supporters; and program evaluation.
Currently she is working on a Australian Research Council (ARC) grant (2015-18) looking at the nature of the relationship formed between young people with cognitive disability and their paid support.
