Elaine has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry. As a Professor of Practice  with the UNSW Business School, Elaine plays a key role enhancing linkages between the university and industry, as well as participating panel discussions with the industry and the AGSM.  

Elaine is also a Non-Executive Director with her current roles including nine years on the Zurich Insurance Board chairing the Risk, Compliance & Audit Committee (predominantly underwriting commercial business insurance), seven years with the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation serving on the Audit & Risk Committee (government agency providing terrorism and cyclone reinsurance pools ), two years on the Lenders’ Mortgage Insurance Board of ANZ Bank, chairing the Audit Committee and serving on the Risk Committee (providing mortgage protection to lenders), one year on the Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania Insurance chairing the Risk Committee and serving on the Remuneration & Nominations Committee (underwriting home and motor insurance in Tasmania), past roles include two years on the RT Health (providing health insurance independently prior to a successful merger with HCF), three years on the Motor Accidents Insurance Board chairing the Audit Committee (government corporation underwriting compulsory third party motor vehicle bodily injury insurance in Tasmania).

Elaine’s qualifications include being a “double” Fellow: a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors of Australia.  She also served on the Actuaries Institute Professional Standards Committee for over ten years, overseeing professional practice requirements, including engaging with APRA to align prudential and professional standards. 

Prior to becoming a Non-Executive Director in 2013, Elaine spent over ten years in Appointed Actuary roles, firstly with KPMG, then as a Partner of Deloitte. She is a passionate advocate for women in leadership roles and mentors female students to pursue opportunities coming their way.
