Chaoran Huang is a Research Associate at the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, UNSW Sydney. He applies data science and machine learning to mine geomechanics research, aiming to improve operational safety and facilitate the digital transformation of the mining sector. Working alongside A/Prof. Chengguo Zhang and Prof. Ismet Canbulat, his research translates advanced data analytics into practical, industry-integrated solutions for ground control and operational decision-making.

He completed his PhD at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, UNSW Sydney, under the supervision of Prof. Lina Yao. While his earlier work concentrated on Service-Oriented Computing and IoT data analytics (collaborating closely with the group), his current focus bridges computer science and mining engineering to deliver data-driven tools for the resources sector.
