Biography

Giselle Newton (she/her) is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Social Research in Health, UNSW Sydney. Giselle's PhD study explores donor-conceived people's experiences, views and support needs in a digital age.

Giselle Newton (she/her) is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Social Research in Health, UNSW Sydney. Giselle's PhD study explores donor-conceived people's experiences, views and support needs in a digital age.

Giselle was invited to take part in the 30-year anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child at the United Nations with a delegation of donor-conceived people which resulted in the International Principles for Donor Conception and Surrogacy. Giselle has also contributed expertise to the Review of Human Reproductive Technology Act (Western Australia), Assisted Reproductive Treatment Amendment Bill (South Australia), and Mitochondrial Donation Reform Bill (Australia) and the development of the South Australian Donor Conception Register (2022).

Beyond her research and advocacy on donor conception, Giselle's research interests span health, families and relationships, care and support. In her role as a Research Assistant, Giselle has contributed to a number of projects related to: interpreters experiences in end of life contexts, family members’ experiences of accessing coronial case files, and informal carers experiences and transitions.
