Dr Rose Amazan is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at UNSW Sydney. Her work focuses on advancing social justice and educational equity, with particular expertise in decolonising educational practices and culturally responsive pedagogy. She has extensive experience collaborating with low‑SES communities in Australia and internationally.
Before joining UNSW, Dr Amazan worked as a secondary teacher and school leader with the New York City Department of Education and later served with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). These professional experiences continue to inform her research and teaching, particularly her commitment to recognising and valuing community knowledge within educational systems.
Dr Amazan’s scholarship is grounded in principles of respect, reciprocity, and meaningful engagement. Her work emphasises collaborative approaches that strengthen relationships between universities, schools, and communities. Across her research, teaching, and service, she is dedicated to fostering equitable, safe, and empowering learning environments for marginalised and disadvantaged groups.
