I am a human geographer and Science and Technology Studies scholar, and currently a Research Fellow in the School of Humanities and Languages and Centre for Social Research in Health. My research concerns adaptive governance in the domains of climate change response, renewable energy and public health. I am currently examining the social dimensions of automation in an increasingly renewable and decentralised energy systems, including through an international research collaboration on the 'Social License to Automate' within the User-Centred Energy Systems Technology Collaboration Programme of the International Energy Agency. I am also working on the role of mathematical modelling in policy response to COVID-19. Recent research has looked at approaches to human adaptation to environmental change, investigating their origins in evolutionary theory and systems ecology as well as their contemporary politics in the context of anthropogenic climate change.
